Summary: Let the image license selector in the upload form do the work. Just pick a license from the menu. Create a short clear image name (spaces are OK). Upload.

If you upload, and forget to choose a license, you can add one up to a week later. Copy it from here: Category:Image license templates. Or upload the image again. Admins will take care of the duplication problem.

Uploading your own photo, graphic, media file

For your own photos pick one of these 3 licenses from the license selector. For more info about them click the links.

These are also the main image licenses accepted by Wikipedia/Wikimedia upload.

Uploading images that aren't yours

Pick the relevant image license from the license selector. You must also leave a link to the source page. See also: Category:Image license templates.

The source page must explain the image licensing. Otherwise the image will be deleted. As at Wikipedia the free image license must allow image alteration, and both commercial and noncommercial image use. The admins will decide if the image has an acceptable image license. If it does not, then the image will be deleted.

Event graphics (posters, flyers, and banners)

Choose "event graphic" in the license selector. Please indicate the city, nation, event, and exact date (if possible) of the event.

The source is not required, but it is helpful for figuring out, or verifying, the city, nation, date, event, organization, history, etc.. For more info and help see Image uploading and use#Fair-use images.

Note: You must pick a license from the license selector menu, or your image will be deleted. You can click on any license for more info, and to view the license banner. The banners have links that explain them further.
